Our Story

When did you think of the idea to create Winfield?
How did it begin?

Winfield Street Coffee
was born from a simple idea

That a coffee shop could be more than a place to grab a cup of coffee—it could be a place to connect, to belong, and to make someone’s day a little brighter.

The original Winfield Delicatessen opened in 1925 in Norwalk, Connecticut, and became a beloved neighborhood staple.

In 2015, I had the honor of taking over this historic business, just 33 days after my first son was born. That first location, a modest shop in East Norwalk, was where our journey truly began.

I came to the United States from Brazil at age 18, starting as a dishwasher. Over time, I worked nearly every position in food service—cook, server, barista, manager—before deciding to take a leap of faith and build something of my own. Around that same time, I met my wife Jeanette, an opera singer with a heart as big as her voice. Together, we dreamed of building a life—and a business—that could bring joy to others.

With that first shop, we set out to serve excellent coffee, creative food, and a smile first. That mission still guides everything we do.

From one Café to a
Community

Today, Winfield Street Coffee has grown to 7 locations across Connecticut, New York, and Florida, including cafés in downtown Stamford, NYC subway stations, and most recently, our flagship in Rye, NY, located inside a beautifully restored train station and featuring our first beer, wine, and craft cocktail bar.

Each café is different—but the heart is the same: warm service, handcrafted coffee, and fresh breakfast and lunch served with consistency and care.

We’ve roasted our own beans locally since 2023, partnering directly with producers in Brazil. We’ve built a thriving catering program, served over 10,000 meals to those in need, and opened our doors to local artists, musicians, and community events.

You’ll also find Winfield in non-traditional spaces—from coffee trailers at malls, to concession stands in clubs and senior centers, to college campuses and offices.

Built on
Gratitude

Our growth is fueled by faith, family, and the incredible people around us. I am deeply grateful to my wife Jeanette, our children, my mentors, the Criscuolo family, UCONN, and the many team members and investors who believed in this dream before it made sense on paper.

I’m also beyond grateful to my business partners:

  • Peter Krupa, who joined in 2019 after building our Stamford location. Since then, he’s built every store and every franchise location in the pipeline, always adding those finishing touches and fresh design elements that bring Winfield’s personality to life.
  • Caleb Macpherson, who came onboard at the end of 2022 and helped us launch our in-house roasting operation. He’s since reimagined our coffee program with seasonal roasts and signature drinks that push our quality and creativity further every quarter.

Winfield Street Coffee isn’t just a brand. It’s a mission. It’s a smile from your barista who remembers your name. It’s a place where the quality is as consistent as the welcome. And it’s a growing community rooted in the belief that every guest matters.

Whether you visit us for a flash brew, a sandwich, or simply a moment to pause—we’re honored to have you.

Who were your
biggest supporters?

” My wife is my number one supporter. She always believed in me and gave me confidence. She put her career on a hiatus so I could focus on building the Winfield brand. She put her savings into the investment for our first store. Our parents have also always given their unconditional support and constant advice. I am grateful for the people that led me in all of my different jobs, especially the Criscuolo family, who owned the Greenwich pizza joint and gave me my first job in America. I am grateful for this country and our constitution that allows for people like myself to have a shot at creating something. I am grateful for my community college (NCC) and my university (UCONN), where I learned things that opened many doors for me. I am grateful for my staff and our managers, who work hard to keep bringing that mission and that concept to fruition every day. And I am grateful to my current investors that believed in the brand I described to them and committed to it financially.
